It's defintely a memory hog. I have 312MBs of RAM and it just runs smooth. Barely. 512MBs is recommended for the beast.

Windows 2000 is better cause you don't have to register and you can get by with 128MBs of RAM, runs perfect with 256MBs of RAM.

you people obviously have never even looked into the true qualitys of Windows XP. I am a linux user, so for me to say this is not something i do often, WINDOWS XP IS NOT A BAD OS! that said, ill explain my self:
First off, windows XP needs 256 ram to run normaly, and its optimal for a 1.6ghz processer. Second, you can reduce the tear on your memory by makeing a larger page file (like linux swap, virtual ram). I have an AMD Athlon 2400+ XP system, and it has 384mb ram, and it runs XP KILLER! it runs linux good too, but xp is also good. Now, im sure the people saying this are using XP Home, and i understand why you dont like it. And lastly, if your os runs slow, its because of too many un-needed processes, viruses and cross-linked files. have any of you ever gone to run and typed in cmd then typed in chkdsk /f? That will improve performance. ask me if you system isnt running good, ill make it run better.

I agree the things you can do on it are great. See, you mentioned one thing though. Optimized for a 1.6Ghz processor or better. I'm on a 1.3Ghz so I experience a slight lag. Not a whole lot, but enough to irritate me at times. I'm only on XP for 2 reasons. 1, my dialup doesn't work as well with win2k as it does xp. See cause on win2k for some reason the drivers for it aren't optimized and my connections take several attempts. On XP I dial up on the first attempt everytime. 2. Win2K pro, as great as it is, doesn't have a movie maker.
